These are the horses of the Scottsdale Stampede, designed and painted by local artists and all sporting some unusual or whimsical theme.
Other cities, like New York, Chicago, Cincinnati and New Orleans, have had animal-themed public art displays. And Rhode Island has had their Mr. Potato Head Festival. But no matter what type of creature is displayed, it means fun and tourism dollars for the city that sponsors it. And, in the case of Scottsdale, it also meant that some worthy charities benefited when the horses were auctioned at the April ’01 charity event.
