Our Cactus League – The big news this season was the grand opening of a new stadium in Scottsdale for the Arizona Diamondbacks! It looks like it will be a banner year for the Cactus League as the attendance is destined to surpass last year.
The new stadium at Salt River Fields, the Diamondbacks new spring home, is a $100 million complex with 13 practice fields, was built by Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and reflects their cultural heritage. Their Talking Stick golf course, their Talking Stick Resort, and the nearby Talking Stick Pavilions Shopping Center are all great amenities for Scottsdale.
Going back to 1929, the Detroit Tigers were the first team to hold spring training in Phoenix. The original Scottsdale Stadium was built in 1956. There have been 4 all-Cactus League World Series… 1954, 1989, 2002 and 2010.
Our very own Ollie the Trolley that takes you all over downtown Scottsdale (for free!) is also serving the new Salt River Fields Stadium.
